Why is the Elbrus area traditionally popular for alpine skiing and mountaineering? The answer is clear. The Elbrus (5642 m) is a legendary mount in the Caucasus mountain chain, located in southern Russia between the Black and the Caspian Sea. With its 5642 meters (18 510 ft.) above the sea level, the western summit of Elbrus is the highest peak of geographical Europe. The Elbrus is a mount of volcanic nature what explains its distinct “round” look.
